The March Past (Poem)

There is a march, march past
Of thousands of men,
Who are brave-hearted men,
And fought hard to the last.

These men as they march
Say "Have you the thought
Of that which we sought
As we went on that march?"

The horror and sound of it,
The deafening noise of it,
Our hearts how they quailed,
And we thought we had failed,
But, it was victory, man,
Victory and death.

Do you hear the march past
Of the men who won through
On the side of the angels?
They are safe home at last!
