Open the Door, O Lord (Poem)

To proclaim liberty to the captives and the opening of the prison to them that are bound.
—Isaiah 61:1

I.

Open Thou, the prison door, O Lord,
And set the captives free,
From suffering and from woes untold
Bring forth, and lead them unto Thee,
Thou King of Kings.

For Thou the prison door can ope,
Thine angel send to men,
Whose hearts are torn and courage fails
"No answer yet," they think Thou fail’st,
O King of Kings!

Fling wide the prison door, O Lord,
Lead forth the captive host
Of men, sore wounded and distressed,
And make them know, through liberty
The King of Kings.
