Life’s Uses

Hours that are grief-dimmed,
Days that are toil worn,
Bid them be star-rimmed;
Bid them be love-born;
Suffer Time's light and shade,
Till earthly scores are paid.

Never to break thee,
Making thee rather
Lowly, yet perfectly
One with the Father,
Drink from Loves Spiritual cup,
Lift thy Life's uses up.

Faith that is fearless
Fold thy desirings,
Peace in God's nearness
Crown thy aspirings;
Firm in Earth's mildest shock;
Calm on the imperishable rock!
