Love (Poem)

Love never dies; it lives throughout the ages,
If it be true, and pure, and holy love,
Distance may part, and that dear voice, like music
Unto our listening ears, be no more heard.
Years may roll on, and time may bring us changes
Before we can again behold that form,
Or gaze upon that face so bright and sunny,
Those eyes reflecting back our holy love.
Love cannot fail for holy love is stronger
Than sorrow, hatred, fear, doubt, time, and space.
Love cannot fail, for no reward it seeketh,
It giveth all, and doth all self efface.
Love cannot change, for holy love is changeless,
No matter whether it be crowned or crossed.
Love suffereth long, and human sorrow shareth
Till victory sings her glad triumphant song.
Love cannot die, for love is Holy Spirit,
The Christ within us that is Life itself;
And this must live, and love though distance sever,
Must live and ever love while years roll on.
