The Proof (Poem)

Each separate life is but part of the life-universal,
We catch just a glimpse—nothing more—of the God Whom we seek,
In the dutiful deed, in the word kindly spoken, in motives
Reminding us all of the life Whose example we love.
Look less to the sky than the soul of thy brother and sister
For evidence of the existence eternity holds:
And ponder thou well upon noble and worthy endeavor
'Tis God's highest witness: none other can testify true.
