James Allen was a little-known philosophical writer and poet. He is best recognized for his book, As a Man Thinketh. Allen wrote about complex subjects such as faith, destiny, love, patience, and religion but had the unique ability of explaining these subjects clearly and in a way that is easy to understand. He often wrote about cause and effect, sowing and reaping, as well as overcoming sadness, sorrow, and grief.
Ralph Waldo Emerson is a well known author and poet. He is best known for his series of essays which include "The Over-Soul" and "Self-Reliance". James Allen quoted Emerson often and his books were advertised in Allen's journal, The Light of Reason.
Ralph Waldo Trine was an early leader in the New Thought movement. James Allen advertised and reviewed Trine's books in his magazine, The Light of Reason. His best known for his book, In Tune With the Infinite.
